Not only do the LIRR crews NOT PARK over these pads all the time... BUT has any one else noticed that the LIRR has not actually changed the absorbent "drip-pads" they placed on the areas of track where the trains are SUPPOSED to be parked? It has been ALMOST A YEAR AND A HALF since these "original" pads were installed.
The purpose of these pads is to collect oil/deisel and other hazardous chamicals dripping from the trains so they can not enter the ground water (and pollute the Suff. Co. Water Auth. drinking water well RIGHT ACCROSS THE STREET!). It seems to me that these are obviously "disposable" pads that were merely stapled onto the railroad ties below the track, and that they will NOT last forever. It also seems reasonable to expect that these pads should be changed at least once per year.
