LIRR finally changed drip pads

LIRR personnel were recently observed performing maintenance at the Montauk Station, which appeared to involve changing the "drip-pads" which prevent fuel, oil and other harmful chemical contaminants from polluting nearby drinking water wells and fresh water ponds and wet lands. These plastic-lined pads were stapled down to the rail-road ties between the tracks in the Montauk rail-yard and the passenger platform approximately two years ago after MAP Coalition research revealed the existence of regularly maintained "drip-wells" to protect the surrounding environment. These "drip-wells" are built into the ground at rail head where locomotives park, and are installed in every LIRR station where trains are parked with the exception of Montauk (where 5-7 trains may often be parked for days at a time while layed-over for the weekends).
