I'm a northern California resident, and while researching a similar problem, happened to find your e-page. In the town where I live (Weed, California) there are at least 12 homes within 300 feet of the railroad tracks. We have dealt with idling trains for any where from 1 hour to 48 hours. A group of us started a telephone campaign to the railroad, voicing our concern and dismay over this, and were told "hey, if you don't like it, move ........ we were here first". While that may be true, years ago (back in the 1940's and 1950's) there was heavier train traffic, hauling logs to and from the mills, AND THEY DIDN'T SIT AND IDLE FOR LONG PERIODS.

I am so dismayed by the railroads response (or lack of) that I don't have a clue where else to turn. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate hearing from you.
